Philanthropy. It started with Prometheus who sparked (see what we did there) the idea of giving something for the benefit of mankind and ignited (oops, we did it again) a movement that traveled through history and around the world.
It may seem like a narrow scope to view our past, but when studied properly, the evolution of how, why, when and who took part in philanthropy can open our eyes to a whole new view of history. Through articles, stories, and illustrations, kids can discover the role Benjamin Franklin played in founding a variety of voluntary associations, the most famous “givers” in the books, the history of the fundraiser, how charities helped during The Great Depression, nonprofits that focus on making life better for kids, how technology is helping to make giving easier, and more.
